How to post a new article

From Cline Computers Wiki

Anyone can post to this wiki — no login or account is needed. If you can open the wiki, you can create and edit pages.

Method 1: Search for the title, then create the page[edit | edit source]

1. Go to https://wiki.clinehelp.com/ 2. Type the title of your new article in the search box at the top right. Example: "How to reset a Yealink phone" 3. Press Enter or click the search icon. 4. The search results will say the page does not exist, with a red link like: "Create the page 'How to reset a Yealink phone' on this wiki!" 5. Click that red link. A blank editor opens. 6. Write your article (see "Writing your article" below). 7. Click "Save page" at the bottom.

Method 2: Go straight to the page address[edit | edit source]

1. In your browser's address bar, type the wiki address followed by your article title, using underscores instead of spaces. Example:

  https://wiki.clinehelp.com/wiki/How_to_reset_a_Yealink_phone

2. You will see "There is currently no text in this page" with a link to create it. 3. Click the create/edit link, write your article, and save.

Method 3: Link from an existing page[edit | edit source]

1. Open any existing page and click "Edit" (or "Edit source"). 2. Add a link to your new article title using double square brackets, for example:

How to reset a Yealink phone

3. Save the page. Your new link appears in red, meaning the page does not exist yet. 4. Click the red link to open the blank editor and write the article.

Writing your article[edit | edit source]

The wiki has a visual editor (like a word processor) and a source editor (wikitext).

  • Visual editor: Click the "Edit" tab. Use the toolbar to make headings, bold or italic text, bullet lists, numbered lists, and links. To add a link to another wiki page, highlight the words and click the link icon, then type the page title.
  • Source editor: Click "Edit source". The most useful formatting is:
 - Headings: == Heading == (two equals signs on each side)
 - Bold: bold text (three apostrophes)
 - Italic: italic text (two apostrophes)
 - Bullet list: lines starting with * (asterisk)
 - Numbered list: lines starting with # (hash)
 - Link to another wiki page: Page title or words to display

Before you save, write a short summary in the "Summary" box (for example, "First draft" or "Added the reset steps") so others can see what changed. Then click "Save page".

Finding your article later[edit | edit source]

Categories appear at the bottom of the page, and clicking one lists every page in that category.

Tips[edit | edit source]

  • Keep titles short and specific, like a question or a task: "How to set up voicemail on a Yealink phone" is better than "Phones".
  • Put the most important information first. Someone reading in a hurry should get the answer in the first paragraph.
  • Link to related pages instead of repeating the same steps twice. If a step changes, it only needs updating in one place.
  • Every change is saved in the page history. Click "View history" on any page to see past versions, and an admin can undo a change if something goes wrong.
  • Do not put customer passwords or other secrets on the wiki. Customer details are fine, but passwords belong in the password manager, not on a page anyone can open.

Need to fix a mistake?[edit | edit source]

Open the page, click "Edit", fix it, and save. To undo a bad edit, click "View history", pick the last good version, click "Edit" on that version, and save it. If you are not sure, ask Joel — he is the wiki admin and can restore anything.
